On Tour! My latest PGA adventures

Not only does spring bring baseball to Florida, but also the PGA Tour’s Florida Swing. For the first time, I got to enjoy four straight weeks of pro golf in-person! I had a blast and logged several miles on some of Florida’s most beautiful courses. So come along, I’ll take you on a tour!

The Florida Swing teed-off at the Honda Classic in Jupiter, FL, (also home to the St. Louis Cardinals Spring Training site) at the gorgeous PGA National — famous for The Bear Trap, a stretch of three challenging holes redesigned by Jack Nicklaus himself. In the photos below you’ll see the statue that bears 😉 the plaque and Jack’s quote, “It should all be won or lost here.”

The following week I was fortunate enough to catch the final day of the World Golf Championships- Cadillac Championship down in Miami at Trump National Doral. (And yes, the Donald made an appearance.) The clubhouse and grounds are as over-the-top as you’ve heard, but ultimately very impressive. Everything inside the main clubhouse seems to be accented in gold, just as Trump would have it. It was a fun tournament and cool to attend a WGC.

The next two Florida Swing stops were for work. It was a lot of fun to get out in the field for CBS Sports as part of our golf coverage this year. Stay tuned for the videos!

We kicked off our PGA project at the Valspar Championship in the Tampa, FL, area. We highlighted the Innisbrook Resort’s top two other courses aside from the tournament’s Copperhead Course. Remember the Bear Trap? Copperhead has it’s own group of three challenging holes called the Snake Pit — and of course we got a pic with that statue too.

It was a lot of fun and we also ventured over to the tournament itself where I caught up with six-time PGA Tour champ Bill Haas.

Our final shoot of the Florida Swing was a quick in-and-out project. We shot in the morning in Orlando after getting a chance to visit Disney World the day before. The Arnold Palmer Invitational was taking place in the area that week so we were able to catch up with Matt Kuchar at a course close by. Lucky for us, it ended up being the impeccable Jack Nicklaus Golden Bear Club.

It was quite the month down here in Florida on the PGA Tour, here’s to covering more golf in the future!
